Telegram introduced a new update last week, enhancing its instant messaging platform with additional features and improvements. The latest version now includes Chromecast support for Android users, enabling them to effortlessly cast videos from the platform to larger screens. Furthermore, several new security-oriented features have been implemented to help users safeguard themselves against scams and spam. Additionally, Telegram is offering businesses and startups the opportunity to verify their users through its verification platform at a reduced rate.
In a recent blog entry, the messaging platform outlined its latest features. This announcement is part of the company’s monthly update, which introduces new functionalities and enhancements. The focus of this update is on Telegram Stars, the platform’s virtual currency that allows users to unlock content and services within mini apps, as well as to make donations to other users. In India, acquiring 100 Stars will be priced at Rs. 199.
Among the significant updates, Telegram for Android has now incorporated support for Chromecast. Users of the messaging app on Android devices can easily cast videos to their Chromecast devices with just a few taps. After selecting a video, users need to click on the settings icon and proceed to the Chromecast option to initiate streaming.
To enhance user protection against scams, Telegram is implementing a new information page feature. When an individual who is not in a user’s contacts sends a message for the first time, the application will display a comprehensive information page. This page will include details such as the sender’s country (determined by their phone number), the date they joined the platform, the last time they updated their username and profile picture, any shared groups, and whether the account is official or has third-party verification.
The company asserts that this page will be visible prior to the user’s response, enabling them to identify suspicious activities and potential scams.
Additionally, Telegram is revising the pricing structure for its Verification Platform. The Telegram Gateway serves as an authentication solution for businesses and startups, facilitating the verification of their customers’ phone numbers.
Telegram Gateway presents an economical and privacy-oriented solution for user authentication, enabling businesses to confirm their customers’ phone numbers via Telegram at a significantly reduced cost compared to traditional SMS services. Currently, Telegram Gateway offers SMS authentication for just $0.01 (approximately Rs. 0.80) following a 20 percent discount. Furthermore, businesses have the option to establish a maximum delivery timeframe for the authentication codes; should the codes fail to arrive within this period, the associated fee will be refunded.
In addition, Telegram is providing users who receive a substantial volume of incoming messages with tools to manage spam and capitalize on their popularity. The platform now allows users to impose a fee for incoming messages from individuals outside their contact list. This new feature aims to prevent spam messages from reaching users while simultaneously offering a monetization opportunity.
Moreover, the star system can be utilized in groups and channels to maintain discussions on relevant topics, allowing group administrators to monetize their community-building initiatives.
