YouTube is reportedly developing a redesign similar to that of Netflix in order to enhance its competitiveness against Amazon Prime Video

According to sources, Youtube:
The video streaming service owned by Alphabet, plans to feature paid content from other providers prominently on its homepage, facilitating easier discovery for users. In a similar vein, Amazon’s Prime Video allows users to view content from third-party services and subscribe directly within the app. YouTube currently provides ad-free video streaming across multiple platforms, and customers in the United States also have the option to pay for access to television channels through the platform.

Youtube to Highlight Paid Content from External Straming Services:
A report from The Information, as referenced by The Verge, indicates that YouTube is in the process of implementing a significant redesign of its application for smart televisions. The new app’s layout is expected to resemble that of well-known streaming platforms such as Netflix and Disney+, as stated by the publication.

It is important to highlight that Alphabet’s video streaming platform currently allows users to subscribe to various third-party streaming services through the Movies and TV section of the YouTube application on smart televisions. The Primetime Channels feature includes services such as Max, Paramount+, and the anime streaming platform Crunchyroll; however, it has been some time since YouTube has added a new third-party service.

Prime Video, on the other hand, prominently features external services such as Apple TV+ throughout various sections of the application, including the homepage. Users have the ability to subscribe to these platforms directly within the app, and it has been reported that YouTube is seeking to implement a similar approach.

Kurt Wilms, Senior Director of Product Management at YouTube, informed The Information that the application will provide a cohesive interface that displays content from both YouTube creators and third-party sources. He stated, “The vision is that when you come to our app and you’re looking for a show, it’ll just blend away whether that show is from a Primetime Channel or that show is from a creator,” as reported by the publication.

Users are expected to encounter teasers for third-party content on the home screen upon launching the YouTube application, which will feature autoplaying previews. Although the company has not formally confirmed intentions to introduce a revamped interface for its smart TV application, the report indicates that this update is anticipated to be released within the “next few months.
